Golfers can enjoy the best courses in the major seaside resorts of Le Touquet, Cabourg and Deauville. In the winter, mountaineering might be your cup of tea whether you’re an expert or a novice and skiing is also a favourite in France. The Alps are best for downhill skiing and the Pyrenees for cross-country.

While Paris is undoubtedly the undisputed major focus for theatre, classical concerts, ballet and opera, there is also plenty going on in the provinces, particularly in the summer. Rock concerts are held at the Zenith and the Olympia in Paris while clubbers might want to try out the expensive Paris clubs on the Champs-Elysees like Le Queen.
